Six Month Old Checkup

Raegan went in to the doctor today for her six month "well visit". Little did I know it would also turn out to be a "sick visit." She has double ear infections and is wheezing again. So more breathing treatments and we will also be starting her on a round of antibiotics. Her stats: weight-14 lbs. 9 oz. (25% percentile)
height-25 in. (25% percentile...she's our little shrimp)
her head- 16 7/8 in. (50-75%...a little shrimp with a big
head...haha!)

A Sleep Update

So I wanted to give an update on a post I wrote a few weeks ago. After five months of a ridiculous lack of sleep, and I do mean ridiculous, I broke down and called the lactation consultant at the hospital where I gave birth. She refered me to The Parenting Center out of Children's Hospital. If I had a million dollars, I would give these people a huge donation. They have saved my life! I called to tell her that Raegan had been waking up for five months multiple times a night (when "multiple" got to be five times, this is when I called) even though I had tried everything. She told me to use a technique that is a little more bearable than the cry it out approach since we live in an apartment and share a wall with our neighbors. The way it works: when the child wakes up to cry, go in and pat her for three minutes and "shush" really loud, but don't look at the child or offer any entertainment, smiles, etc. After three minutes, walk out and let her cry for ten minutes, then go back in and do the same thing. If after an hour the baby is still crying, pick her up and hold her for fifteen minutes, then repeat the process if the baby is still crying. Well, we did this and after the third day, she slept through the night for two nights. Then she started waking up again. By the ninth day I was desperate again and back on the phone with the lady from the Center. She told me to give her some oatmeal at night because it may last her longer (and then I decided to add another feeding in there), but to keep repeating our ritual. Well, so far, she has slept through the night every night since then! I can't tell you how blissful this is. Maybe this is common sense for some people. Or who knows, maybe she really was getting hungry. I will say that she has noticably gained some weight. Either way, I am grateful and feeling so much better.

Mardi Gras Fun

We took Peyton and Raegan to their first Mardi Gras parade this past Saturday night (well, Raegan enjoyed it from inside the minivan). We went to a family friendly Metairie Mardi Gras parade, Isis, a couple of blocks from our house instead of a wild and crazy parade downtown. Peyton had a blast, and she got a ton of stuff. It was great! But so cold.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Bathtub Fun

Peyton loves taking a bath with Raegan, and now that Raegan is sitting up, I can throw them in there together. They're so cute taking a bath together.

Sleep

I have reached my breaking point with Raegan. For those of you who may not know, this child does not sleep at night. We've tried letting her cry, patting her down, etc. but nothing has worked. Arnold and I both are at the point that we just can't take anymore. Three hours of sleep a night (if that much) just isn't cutting it. So I called The Parenting Center today at Children's Hospital and talked to a lady that gave me some hope. We are going to try this new method, and I will let you know if it works. Yea for sleep!

A Crispy Newspaper

Last week, Peyton, who was "helping" me cook almost burned the house down. Well, not exactly, BUT I had the burner on cooking a pot of green beans while she was standing on a chair at the counter. She must have pushed a newspaper that was laying on the counter on the burner. I was digging for something in the fridge, turned around and saw the newspaper on fire. I'm not sure why my first reaction was to try and beat the fire out of the paper instead of rushing it over to the sink, but my tactic wasn't working. So I yelled for Arnold who came running and said the obvious, "Put it in the sink and turn the water on!!!" Poor little Peyton. She was frightened to death and for the rest of the night kept saying, "paper got burned."
