The Zoo

This weekend we bought a pass to the zoo and aquarium. I guess this is where I'll be spending my summer!

Can you see that Peyton is picking the monkey's nose?Raegan had a blast. Can't you tell?

Time for You to Go

I love the Christian sister rock band Barlow Girl, and I wanted to share with you a great song off of their newest album, Love and War. Here is the link to the song if you would like to listen to it. Just copy and paste it into your browser. http://popup.lala.com/popup/360569479529313048

This song describes Christians getting sucked into the things of the world, swayed by the media, tempted by trashy movies, etc. My favorite line from the song "...We've traded God for ashes..." I see this in my life and in so many lives of Christians. Before long we're compromising, de-sensitized, and settling for and addicted to the world and its trash...ashes. I hope this song speaks to you like it has me. Here are the words below.

"Time For You To Go"
Written and Recorded by Barlow Girl

I hope you don't mind that I know your life because I read it every day
And all of your faults make me feel so good
Because the media stole my brain
It's so nice to have someone tell me what to think
What is it for, do we want more, do we want more?
And on and on it goes 'till all of us are sucked in
So shut it off and see we're missing out on living
Chorus
I am so done listening to you
Time for you to go Time for you to go
I refuse to give one more day to you
Time for you to go time for you to go
No more wasting my life on this world's addiction
Time for me to take you to find your place
I am letting go
Time for you to go
Isn't it nice to know that the media will sway our votes
Cause seriously we've got to see that they choose what we know
Our morals get thrown away for the next big thing we've got to see
What is it for, do we want more, do we want more?
And on and on it goes till all of us are sucked in
So shut it off and see we're missing out on living
Chorus
We're missing out on His voice
We've traded God for ashes
We've got to think for ourselves
Where's our passion?
Chorus

Exploding Cake

Last week when my mom was here, I decided to bake a cake from scratch because we both love sweets. I should have known that 1/2 cup of baking soda was too much, but I obviously wasn't thinking. Four minutes after I put the cake in the oven, I started smelling something. I turned on the light and saw that the cake was already rising. I thought, "Wow! That's really fast." But then fifteen minutes later when the cake started exploding, I knew something was wrong. This would have been a ten foot high cake if I had let it keep going. HA! The recipe called for 1/2 teaspoon. This is why you should ALWAYS proofread when copying a recipe (or anything else for that matter!). I'm a big fan of proofreading. Here's the exploding chocolate cake.

I made another one a few days later, and it turned out great!

Forgot

Ever wondered how massive sleep deprivation will affect you?

Last night I forgot to take my pump with me.

This morning I forgot
1. Raegan's bottles
2. Raegan's diapers
3. the diaper bag
4. I brought bread with me to work but nothing to put in between the two
slices.

I live in a constant fog! I need an assistant, and I need to buy stock in Post-Its.

Have You Ever Seen?

Have you ever seen a fast food restaurant so crowded?

New Orleans, or Metairie to be exact, has a new free standing Chick-Fil-A. It's been open now for two weeks, but it is ridicuously crowded all the time. But it's okay because the food is awesome, the service is awesome, and everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful.

This is a shot of the parking lot and cars in the drive through line. It's sort of hard to tell what is what, but you get the picture that the parking lot is incredibly packed. In fact, the drive through line sometimes stretches out to the main road and to the bank down the street.

These are people who had to park on the street beside the restaurant because the parking lot was full.

Eat More Chicken!

Chick-Fil-A is AWESOME! Who doesn't love that place?

Dancing with the Stars

Peyton has a new favorite tv show--Dancing with the Stars. Last night I turned on the tv, flipped through the channels and landed on this program. The minute she saw one of the girls dancing, she said "princess dancing!" She was hooked. I have never seen her sit so still for a tv show before.

Grammy Visit

I could rant and rave about this healthcare bill. About how 16000 plus IRS workers are going to be hired. (That's all we need...more IRS!) or how businesses, forced to purchase health insurance for employees, will be spending millions of dollars in this bad economy and will be forced to let employees go. It is that bad and worse. I heard a statistic this morning...40% of doctors saying they will close their practices. We should be on our knees praying about this one.

But I will stop there and post some pictures of our week with Grammy last week. Grammy came to New Orleans to visit grandbabies. She did a lot of cleaning, heard a lot of crying, and got to experience the joys of being up half the night with either one of the kids or even both. But we had a good time and everyone misses her.

Clean Up!

You know it's bad when your two year old comes in your bedroom and says, "Mommy, Cwean up!" and starts picking up dirty socks off the floor and a magazine. Guess it's time to straighten up our room!

Freeze Tag

The other day something reminded me of my church back home, and this brought back memories from childhood. I started thinking about those wonderful summer nights when I was a kid. After church on Sunday nights, my church friends(Emily, Karla, Casie, Justin, Greg, etc.) and I would run outside and head to the tree beside the church. We would begin a game of freeze tag that would last until our parents made us get in the cars to go home. The rickety old church sign was base and the tree was the other base. To vary it up sometimes, we would play Chinese freeze tag (crawling under someone's legs to "unfreeze" them) and cartoon freeze tag (I don't remember this one, but it had something to do with cartoon characters). I loved playing chase, and I have such fond memories of that carefree time in life when the only thing I had to worry about was escaping the hand on my back and the loud voice screaming, "TAG! YOU'RE IT!!!" I hope my children will love going to church and will form great friendships with other little boys and girls so that they can have great memories too.

Some Random Pictures

Peyton holding Raegan.
Raegan had fun playing with her friend Maleah the other night. This school bus provides hours of entertainment.

Peyton loves helping me out in the kitchen. My friend Grandma gave her a little cupcake set for Christmas. The other day, I put some flour in the silver pot and let her go to town. She made a huge mess, but it occupied her for a while, so it was totally worth it.

Ear Infections and Fun Times

Okay so I'm totally being sarcastic about the fun times. Peyton has been a terror the last week and we could not figure out why. We were doing spankings, time outs, you name it, but nothing was working. She was having horrible fits about EVERYTHING, and Arnold and I were throwing our hands up in the air. We were clueless this time. I thought, wow, this really is the terrible twos. Well, thankfully the great Physician knows what we need. So on Friday we were scheduled to take her to the ENT doctor as a routine check-up for the tubes in her ears. Little did I know that the tubes had fallen out of her ears, and the doctor said she had double ear infections which "looked painful." It never crossed my mind that she had ear infections because I thought the tubes were still in her ears. Boy do we feel thankful that we had that doctors appointment at just the right time. God is good.
