A Busy Day for Baby

This past weekend we decided to visit the church in Houma, LA where Arnold was the interim pastor last year. We had a nice time seeing everyone. They had been wanting us to come see them after Peyton was born. We had a really great time, and had a nice lunch at a Chinese/American buffet. (You know the Chinese restaurant's have really added a lot of American types of food to their buffets...it's a little strange to eat a piece of pizza or a taco with your beef and broccoli and fried rice). ANYWAY, after we got back home, I had to feed Peyton, and then we had to run to Target because we were out of a lot of stuff. I guess all of this travel wore her out. By the time I fed her last night, she was exhausted, and it was kind of funny! As I was holding her on my hip, she would close her eyes and start to fall asleep and then jerk. Poor baby! She just wanted to go to bed!

The Missing Glasses

At 4 am this morning, we were reminded (again) that God does answer prayer and that He really does care about the little stuff. Okay so crazy Arnold lost his glasses (again) yesterday morning. He woke up, got ready for work, went to clean his glasses and couldn't find them. This is usually what I hear, "Joy, where are my glasses?!" Like I know where he put his glasses. Well we searched high and low for those stupid things all day yesterday. Arnold even left work for about fifteen minutes to go home and try to find them. Meanwhile, he had to wear his old glasses, which aren't the right prescription anymore. Last night, after looking for them again, I finally said a little prayer out loud that God would help us find the glasses. We had just bought me a new pair of glasses before Peyton was born, and those things aren't cheap! We don't have an extra $300 laying around to buy more glasses. But the Lord answers prayer. At 4 this morning, apparently I told Arnold I was cold (I have no recollection of this). So he got up to get the other blanket that was on top of his dresser. When he grabbed the blanket, his glasses case fell to the floor and opened. And guess what was in the case....HIS GLASSES! God cares about the small stuff too!

PS-
If you see Arnold sporting a "cool" chain around his neck with his glasses attached, now you'll know why.

Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.
Isaiah 12: 4-6
Isn't today just a beautiful day the Lord created?!

Giggles

An Interesting Easter

What an interesting Easter holiday we had! Thursday night, we hit the road for Monroe, La, and thanked the Lord that He led us safely there! As we were traveling on the interstate, an SUV right in front of us lost control, went across the grassy median, flipped, and landed on the OTHER SIDE of the interstate horizontally. It was pretty scary. Arnold ran over to see if they were okay while I called 911. Luckily I had just looked at an interstate sign, cause I didn't know where in the heck we were. Everyone got out of the car, but they had to crawl through the windows. Luggage, clothes, etc. was all over the interstate. I hope these people realized how the Lord protected them because it was a miracle they got out of the car unharmed! I know we were praising Lord for keeping us safe!

Peyton decided that she didn't want to sleep while we were in Monroe. Oh, she took her naps alright, it was at night that she woke up almost EVERY hour, for THREE straight nights. Last night, she did the same, but maybe not as often. I'm not sure what's going on with her. Does anyone have any idea or has anyone had this same problem? Arnold and I are very tired!

Now on to better news....we had a good visit with his family. We got to see Arnold's friends (and my friends too!), Misty and Joey. I also got to see my old roommate and her little boy, Jackson, who is only one month older than Peyton. We met them at Starbucks in Monroe. Jackson was very entertained by Peyton. Peyton, on the other hand, sees babies all the time. She was just kind of staring at him, but he wanted to touch her face and squealed in delight. It was so cute! I will try to post some pictures soon.

Facebook Fun

Well, I bit the bullet and finally created a Facebook page. I had been avoiding this for a while because I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. I also didn't want us to run into anything dirty or inappropriate through these sites, but several of my friends have convinced me that Facebook is much better than MySpace. So, check us out on Facebook, though I really haven't done much with it yet.
We're going to be heading to Funroe, LA this weekend for Easter. Arnold's parents live there. They haven't seen Peyton since Thanksgiving, when she was only six weeks old! I'm sure they are very excited to see her. You know, they could care less about us anymore! hehe! That's what happens when a grandbaby comes along. If anyone would like to come and clean our apartment while we are gone, just let me know.

Thanksgiving on St. Patrick's Day

Last night we had a Thanksgiving feast for St. Patrick’s Day. That’s kind of weird, but it was very good Around Christmas this past year, we received three turkeys—two from a church and one from my work. Arnold was getting tired of the turkey taking up so much room in our freezer, so we decided to finally eat it. We enjoyed one turkey in December, gave one away, and had the final one last night. Our friend that’s a chef came over with his wife last night and fixed it in our little rotisserie. We had green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, homemade gravy, rolls, and turtle cheesecake. Peyton, by the way, is the best baby ever…now that the first three months of colic is over! She sat in her little bouncy seat by the table and talked to herself and played the whole meal. Saturday when I went to the mall with one of my friends, Peyton was excellent even though we were gone for a long time. AND Sunday, she was a trooper too. Church was delayed by one hour because of a power outage. She was extremely tired, but she never fussed. I feel so blessed by God to have such an awesome little girl! :)

Random Thought- All of my friends' babies look just like their dad, including my baby! What's going on with that?

Fun New Orleans Vacation

I am officially back at work (ssshh...don't tell my boss that I'm sitting at my desk writing this blog). I had a great vacation! Wednesday, I went to Walmart and Sams, the mall, and I had a facial done at Aveda. Thursday, Arnold and I went to VooDoo BBQ then walked around Magazine St. Friday, we went and ate breakfast at Shoney's, went to the mall, ate lunch downtown, then went to the D-Day museum, which I really enjoyed. Saturday, I went to the mall (again!) with Peyton and one of my friends and then to McAlister's. It has been a very busy, very fun few days! In fact, I think we made up for the last five months in five days!

Back to the D-Day museum....I really didn't remember much from high school history about
WW II, but the museum was interesting. I would recommened it to anyone who comes to New Orleans to visit. By the way, I am distantly related to Winston Churchill. (Arnold rolls his eyes every time I tell people that...he's just jealous...all his relations are outlaws...j/k :) And my mom told me that my great uncle fought in the war. Well actually his job was to pick up the dead and wounded. I can't imagine the tremendous sacrifice these people had to make to fight!

Anyway, it was a great time, and I thank the Lord for a few days off!!!

A Peyton-filled Weekend

This past weekend Arnold had to work on his dissertation, so instead of sitting around the house all day, Peyton and I "hung out." Saturday we went to the grocery store, which is quite difficult with a five month old. She kept grabbing my list and throwing it on the floor. She actually was pretty good, but boy is it a lot of work to take her along! Sunday, we were big 'ol heathens. Well, we really didn't mean to be...my alarm didn't go off, so we didn't make it to church. I guess the time change really through my cell phone for a loop. Anyway, that afternoon, Peyton and I went to the mall, then back to the grocery store. She was so loud at the mall. She kept squealing really loud and making sputtering noises. It was pretty cute actually.
Yesterday we went to the doctor. She weighs fifteen pounds and is 25 1/2 inches long. The doctor said I can start giving her baby food. I'm sure we will have some funny pictures to post in the next few days.

Day Dates

You know what is nice about work...finding you have a day off! Well, actually, finding out you have three days off!!! I found out Tuesday of this week that next week is spring break for our campus. I talked with Arnold about some possible things I could do on my break because I don't just want to sit around the house. I would love to go to South Carolina, but it's too hard to coordinate with a baby, by myself, and with such short notice. Then I thought that maybe I could take a day trip somewhere, but that idea was no good either. SO Arnold came up with a nice idea. He's going to take two vacation days next week, and we are going to go on day dates. You may be wondering what day dates is....well, it entails leaving Peyton at daycare and going on various excursions around the city. I think we are going to the D-Day museum here as well as visiting Magazine Street and maybe some shops and antique stores, going to a coffee shop or two, going to the movies, and going out to eat. Arnold and I have been out ONCE by ourselves since Peyton was born!!! She's almost five months old. That's sad :( I think it's about time for a day date!

Also, if you haven't ever tried Starburst Jelly Beans, you need to pick you up a bag for Easter and try them. They are so good!

Duck Love

Sunday we decided to go to City Park in New Orleans. After everyone in the family being sick the last few days, we needed some fresh air, and it was a beautiful day. One thing I love about New Orleans is the warm weather. Anyway, we had a nice stroll around the park with Peyton. She seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. One funny thing happened as we were walking around. There was a lady by the edge of the lake who started exclaiming, "That duck is eating the other duck! What should I do? Should I throw something at him or will he attack me if I do?! Oh my goodness! He's eating that other duck!" As Arnold and I got closer to the situation, Arnold noticed that the other duck wasn't exactly eating the other duck, but having "relations". Arnold told the lady what was going on, and it was hilarious! She started laughing. Everyone was laughing. Well, that was one hungry duck!

Arnold and I both feel better, and we want to thank everyone for praying for us. We appreciate it very much!
